SEATTLE
1786?-1866
Su padre, Schweabe, fue un noble Suquamish de Agate Pass y su madre, Sholitza, era Duwamish de lower Green River. Según varias investigaciones Seattle habría nacido en 1786 en Blake Island, una pequeña isla al sur de Brainbridge Island, durante las terribles epidemias, legadas por los pioneros blancos, que diezmaban la población indígena.
Cuando tenía 20 - 25 años Seattle es nombrado jefe de seis tribus, cargo en el que fue reconocido hasta su muerte.
Después de la muerte de uno de sus hijos (de sus segundas nupcias, su primera mujer murió al nacer su hija Angeline), fue bautizado por la iglesia católica, probablemente por padres oblatos (en los registros aparece inscrito como Noé Siattle). Sus otros hijos fueron también bautizados.
Seattle es el portavoz durante las negociaciones (iniciadas en 1854) y firmante con otros jefes indios, del tratado de paz de Point Elliott - Mukilteo (1855) que cedía 2.5 millones de acres de tierra al gobierno de los Estados Unidos y delimitaba el territorio de una reserva para los Suquamish.
